  • Internal Schools of Choice (Elementary):
Parents of resident students may request that their child attend a school outside their attendance area by downloading and completing the Intra-District Schools of Choice Application form and submit to the elementary school of choice. Internal Schools of Choice requests will be honored based on space and availability in the school requested. The Schools of Choice student’s place in their assigned attendance area is now vacant and will be filled by other requests. If the Schools of Choice student requests to return to their assigned attendance area, placement will be based upon space and availability. Transportation for Schools of Choice children is the parents’ responsibility.
  • External Schools of Choice:
Grand Haven Area Public Schools accepts Schools-of-Choice applications for residents of Ottawa County and under Section 105c (residents outside Ottawa County). Acceptance is determined by space availability at the building and grade level requested. Some requests may be denied due to overall building or program capacity. Parents can apply by completing and returning the Non-Resident Enrollment Application form to the Education Service Center (1415 Beechtree in Grand Haven). The application window is from February 1 through the end (Friday) of the first week of school each year. Applications are also accepted from January 2 through the end of the 3rd week of January each year for students wishing to transfer to GHAPS at the semester break. Important considerations for parents & students applying for Schools-of-Choice:
    • Transportation is not provided for schools-of-choice enrollees. Parents must provide their own transportation to and from school for children accepted for enrollment.
      • Applications may be denied based on lack of space available, or excessive truancy, suspension or expulsion from the student's district of residence.
      • According to the rules of the Michigan High School Athletic Association there is a 60 school day ineligible period for athletic participation for Schools-of-Choice enrollees in grades 10-12.
  • Students who reside within the Ottawa Area Intermediate School District and contiguous counties may apply to attend GHAPS by downloading and completing the application, and submit to the Education Service Center (1415 Beechtree Street) either by mail or dropping the completed form off in person.
