Rosy Mound School Annual Education Report

January 31, 2017

Dear Parents and Community Members:

We are pleased to present you with the Annual Education Report (AER) which provides key information on the 2015-16 educational progress for Rosy Mound Elementary. The AER addresses the complex reporting information required by federal and state laws. The school’s report contains information about student assessment, accountability, and teacher quality. If you have any questions about the AER, please contact Instructional Services Director Mary Jane Evink at 616.850.5075 for assistance.

The AER is available for you to review electronically by visiting the following website, or you may review a copy in the main office at your child’s school.

For the 2016-17 year, no new Priority or Focus schools were named; some Priority or Focus schools did exit their status because they met the exit criteria. New Reward schools were identified using school rankings and Beating the Odds information. A Focus school is one that has a large achievement gap between the highest and lowest achieving 30% of schools. A Priority school is one whose achievement and growth is in the lowest 5% of all schools in the state. A Reward school is one that has achieved one or more of the following distinctions: top 5% of schools on the Top-to-Bottom School Rankings, top 5% of schools making the greatest gains in achievement (improvement metric), or “Beating the Odds” by outperforming the school’s predicted ranking and/or similar schools. Some schools are not identified with any of these labels. In these cases no label is given.

Our school has not been given one of these labels.

This year’s combined report data suggested continued strong academic achievement for our school. The building has continued to focus on student engagement through our Leader in Me program, as well as a continued focus on the use of technology to enhance academic achievement. We have made a further connection with our community through the addition of our Watch D.O.G.S. father figure involvement program.

State law requires that we also report additional information.

Pupil Assignment

Rosy Mound School’s students are assigned to our building by geographic boundaries as well as schools of choice requests.

3-5 Year School Improvement Plan

Rosy Mound's School Improvement Plan is evaluated on an ongoing basis and revised as needed. The plan outlines in detail specific activities and strategies that have been identified to meet our academic and building goals.

Michigan State Standards

Grand Haven Area Public Schools has joined the state of Michigan in adopting Michigan's State Standards which include the Common Core State Standards. We continue to transition from the Grade Level Content Expectations and High School Content Expectations to fully adopt a more rigorous curriculum in English Language arts, math, and science. We will use the state standards in social studies until new standards are adopted. A copy of the core curriculum, its implementation, and how it may vary from state curriculum can be accessed by contacting the Office of Instructional Services at 616.850.5075.

Parent - Teacher Conference

Our school program is effective because of the consistent support from our parents. In 2015-16, 338 students (98 percent) in the fall and 335 students (97 percent) in the spring were represented by parents at parent-teacher conferences. In 2014-15, 320 students (97 percent) in the fall and 318 students (96 percent) in the spring were represented by parents at parent-teacher conferences.

Overall, Rosy Mound has had a very successful school year as evidenced by its recognition over multiple years as a Rewards school by the state of Michigan. In an effort to improve even further, the building continues in the process of becoming a "Leader in Me" school. This program has shown to be effective in not only raising achievement, but in better preparing students for future challenges.
