The Food Service Department is
committed to providing a healthy and nutritious lunch to students. All GHAPS
students are eligible to participate in the hot lunch program. Menus and
Lunch Preference Requests are distributed each month from your school or can
be printed from the GHAPS website. (www.ghaps.org) 2009-10: We have ELIMINATED our Lunch Preference Form! Read Here! Computerized POS System:
GHAPS has implemented a district wide computerized Point of Sale
system that provides more accuracy in accounting for student’s balances and
lunch choices. The Meal Magic
System enables parents to track
purchases that their child makes.
When you send a payment for your child’s lunch or milk, it will show
as a dollar amount of credit and not a specific type of credit (i.e. – lunch
or milk). Your school will notify
you when your child’s account balance falls below $6.00 so you may replenish
the account. Students who are
eligible for free and reduced meal benefits are required to use their food
service account in order to take advantage of this benefit. Payments: Check your child's meal history and purchases, and make deposits
to their food service account on the
Internet using LunchDeposit.com. To
begin, go to www.lunchdeposit.com.
From there, click the "sign-up" link and follow the steps to set up
your account. You will need your child's ID number; if you do not know your
child’s ID number you can call your school office or the Food Service Office
at 850-6080. You can also make one deposit
for the whole family, regardless of what buildings your children are in. Meals may be paid for by the month,
week or day. No more than two lunches
may be charged for the year. During
the last two weeks of school, charging of lunches will not be permitted. Please put payments in a sealed envelope
with your child’s name. Payments can
be made by check, cash, money order or by going to www.lunchdeposit.com.
Checks or Money Orders should be made out to GHAPS and can only be
deposited for the entire amount. No
change will be given to students.
There is a $15.00 service fee on all returned checks. Negative Balances:
A student whose account is in the negative will have a reminder note
sent home to the parent. Students
whose accounts continue to be in the negative will not receive their menu
selection; instead they will be served a cold sandwich and milk at a cost of
$1.50 until the balance is paid in full. Positive Balances:
Positive Food Service account balances at the end of the school year
will automatically be applied to your child’s meals for the next school year. Meal Benefits: Through the National School Lunch
Program, your child may be eligible for free or reduced meals at school. You may apply at any time during the
school year. This benefit is based
solely on household income. Your
benefit status is valid for the entire school year. If your income fluctuates more than $50 per month ($600 per
year) or the number of people in your household changes, you may reapply for
benefits. Applications are available
from the Food Service Department, the school office, or this website.
Students who are eligible for free and reduced meal benefits are
required to use their food service account in order to take advantage of this
benefit. Fill out your application for Free and
Reduced Meal Benefits online using www.LunchApp.com. When using this site you will
no longer need to send in the paper application and in most cases your
approval will be in one business day or less. Sack Lunches: Sack lunches are available for purchase from the Food
Service Department for your child’s field trips. Meal benefit students may receive sack lunches at their current
benefit rate. All lunches must be ordered
48 hours in advance and can be deducted from your child’s pre-paid balance or
paid on that date. Request forms are
available through the school office, your child’s teacher or this website. |

system that provides more accuracy in accounting for student’s balances and
lunch choices every day. The Meal
Magic System can provide parents with a very detailed breakdown of their
child’s spending habits and food choices.
Parents can request account and meal history through the Food Service
Department. Parents may also request
restrictions to be placed on their child’s account, such as a daily dollar
limit, or type of food items allowed to be purchased. At the secondary level, students will
use their ID cards to access any money that they have in their food service
accounts. Use of ID cards is
required at all secondary schools.
Students must have money in their accounts in order to use it. Students who are eligible for free and
reduced meal benefits are required to use their food service account in order
to take advantage of this benefit. Grand Haven High School ID
Policy: High School students who wish
to utilize the computerized debit system and students who receive free or
reduced meal benefits MUST present their student ID card to the
cashier to use their food service account.
Without an ID card, a student must pay cash for their food. If your child has lost or forgotten their
ID card, they may purchase a replacement with money in their food service
account. A charge of $5 will be
deducted from their balance for a replacement card. Charging Meals: Students may charge up to two type a lunches per year on
their food service account. Snacks or
ala carte items are not permitted to be charged. If a student is more than $5.00 in the negative, they will not
be allowed to charge any meals until their outstanding balance is paid in
full. During the last two weeks of
school, charging of lunches will not be permitted. Payments:
As a convenience, parents may pre-pay money on their child’s
account. Students will be informed
verbally when their balance is at $5 or less. Pre-payments may be for any denomination and can be made by
cash, check or money order. Checks
and money orders will only be deposited for the amount they are written, no
change will be given to a student from a check. Checks or Money Orders can be made out to GHAPS. There is a $15.00 service fee on all
returned checks. Withdrawals:
Student accounts are not bank accounts. Money in the food service account is for food purchases
only. Students are not allowed to withdraw
money from their account at any time.
If a student moves out of the district, parents may request in writing
a refund of their money. A check
will be cut by the district and mailed to the address on file with the
district within 21 business days. Negative Balances: Students who have a negative balance on their food service
account are not permitted to purchase any snack items from the snack
room. Negative balances need to be
cleared up a.s.a.p. Student accounts
that are in the negative at the end of the school year will not receive their
report cards/diploma until all money has been paid in full. Positive Balances:
Positive Food Service account balances at the end of the school year
will automatically carry over into the next school year. Meal Benefits: Through the National School Lunch
