2008-2009 Yearbook ordering opportunities are as follows: August orientation, Parent-Teacher Conferences, and a lunch sale once per trimester (Nov. 4-6, Feb. 3-5, and April 28-30)
**Since GHHS does a fall delivery book, these books will be distributed in the fall of 2009. (GHHS does a fall delivery book in order to include all events of the school year in one publication. Spring delivery books must be finished by March and therefore must exclude many key moments of the school year).
COST: A graduated cost is being set in order to encourage early sales. This helps us to determine our budget.
August Orientation – December 19: $45
December 20 – May 29: $50
May 30 – sold out: $55
**Full payment may be remitted at this time or students may make a $25 non-refundable down payment. For those paying in two installments, a second payment will be due in January.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: (FAQ) |
| |
Q: Why don’t we get our yearbook in the spring? |
Like many schools, Grand Haven does a fall delivery for the following reasons:
- This allows us to cover the ENTIRE school year. Spring delivery books have to be completed by late February/early March. This means the end of winter sports season, spring break, spring sports, prom, graduation and no end of other things are not covered in the book. We want to make sure you have the full record of the school year in one place.
- This allows us to do more in-depth coverage. Instead of just slapping a few pictures on the page, we are able to give you the best possible coverage. It is our hope that your book is more than something that you flip through once or twice looking at the photos. We hope that it sits on your bookshelf for the rest of your life and that decades down the road you can open it up and find cool information and interesting stories about the school year.

Q: Why have our yearbooks been delayed the past: |
In the past two years, we’ve totally changed the way we produce our yearbooks.
- In 2004, we switched to all-digital photography. In the long run this will save us thousands of dollars in film and processing fees and allow us to keep prices down. In the short run, as we learned the process it caused delays as we learned how to correctly manage digital files. Some files that appeared to be on our page folders were actually not digitally linked to those pages. It took us some weeks to find and fix these problems and led to a new, much better system of photo filing in the 2005 book.
- In 2005, we converted to an all-digital submission process for our book. This also saves us thousands of dollars. However, it also came with adjustment problems. We had a number of issues with converting our digital files to the right format so that they could properly be sent to our publisher. Because of the nature of the software involved, it also involved translating a lot of files to different computers. In the long run, this process is going to be beneficial both to the yearbook staff and to the yearbook readers. In the short term, it created problems that kept us working all summer long. In the end, we made the decision to delay the books for a few weeks, rather than eliminating some photos or files that were problematic so that the book you receive is the best possible book.
|
Q: Why are our yearbooks so expensive? We know students at other schools who only pay $30-$35 for their books. |
We are a very large school with nearly 2000 students and dozens of sports and clubs. To cover all of these, we have to produce a very, very large book of 300 or so pages. Smaller schools can do their book in fewer pages, which means less cost. We’ve done everything we can to keep costs as low as possible. However, at our current sales level of approximately 800-1000 books, we are essentially making zero profit off our books. We could save money by cutting pages, not covering all sports or clubs, eliminating color or using a cheaper grade of cover and paper materials, but we are committed to bringing you the best possible product. We are still a student publication and we make mistakes but we are dedicated to continuing to improve and upgrade our book. |
Q: How do I order a yearbook? |
Order forms are available on the high school website, in the main office, or in room 0205. |
Q: How do I get a receipt? |
As we have gone to mail ordering, we have learned that receipt giving is tricky. For years we used a third party payment system but that was costing thousands of dollars so last year we went to doing our own mail order billing which made receipts difficult. This year, with the benefit of experience, we have three options:
- Include a return EMAIL in the space provided on the order form. We will send an E-RECEIPT when your order is processed.
- Include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with your order . We will send a hard copy to you.
- Any student can stop by the yearbook room during third hour and we will hand write a receipt there.

Q: Do I need to design my own ad? |
A: While you are certainly welcome to design your own ad, we can also design them for you. If you are submitting your own ad, we need camera-ready artwork, preferably submitted on a cd or fit to size (scanning or changing sizes sometimes results in lost resolution). Please submit photos as .tiff files. |
Q: How do I pay for my ad? |
A: With a check or money order to Grand Haven High School. They can be mailed, care of GHHS Yearbook, 17001 Ferris, Grand Haven, MI 49417. |
Q: Can I purchase a yearbook as an advertiser? |
A: Yes. Advertisers get a $10 discount. Price for advertisers is $35. |
Q: How can I contact the yearbook? |
A: The direct line to the Yearbook room is 616-850-6207. The class meets from 10:24- 11:34, and that is the best time to reach a person directly. Otherwise, call the advisor at 616-850-6237 and leave a message if necessary. You may also email the advisor at berryl@ ghaps.org |
Q: Can I purchase last year’s book? |
A: Yes, however there are only a limited number of extras, and they will be sold on a first come, first serve basis. |
