Ensembles

We offer many different types of vocal ensembles for our students to sing with at Grand Haven.  Grand Haven Choirs have a tradition of excellence with top marks at choral festivals as well as regularly performing at MYAF.  Throughout the school year, all groups will perform at all scheduled concerts  and participate in MSVMA Choral Festivals and/or MSVMA Solo & Ensemble Festivals.  To learn more about any ensemble offered at the high school, simply click the appropriate button below.  

The Freshman Chorale consists of all freshmen (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass). This choir will study and perform a variety of vocal music at concerts and festivals. Students will learn: healthy vocal technique, how to read music notation, music theory, cooperation skills, problem solving skills and goal setting to achieve high standards of excellence. No previous singing experience is necessary. Admittance is by assignment by a vocal music teacher.

Concert/Performances include: Inauguration/CCR, Fall, Winter, District/State Choral Festival, & Spring.

Chamber Choir is a mixed choir (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass) that studies and performs a variety of vocal music. Students will learn: healthy vocal technique, how to read music notation, music theory, cooperation skills, problem solving skills and goal setting to achieve standards of excellence. Sopranos and Altos must audition to become a part of this ensemble. Tenors and Basses wishing to sing without previous choral experience will need to meet with the director before being placed in the Chamber Choir.

Concert/Performances include: Inauguration/CCR, Fall, Holiday Spectacular, Winter, District/State Choral Festival, & Spring. Chamber Choir may perform at community events and school assemblies. 


Choral Ensemble is a highly select mixed choir (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass) of sixteen to twenty singers. Students learn advanced singing & performance techniques, to read music at an advanced level, historical music styles and techniques, music theory, cooperation skills, problem solving skills and goal setting to achieve standards of excellence. After school and evening performances may be extensive. 

Concert/Performances include: Inauguration/CCR, Fall, Holiday Spectacular, Winter, District/State Solo & Ensemble Festival, Spring, Michigan Youth Arts Festival and 15-25 community performances a year. Admittance is by audition which will be held in the Spring.

Bella Voce is an auditioned 9th-12th grade treble choir (Soprano, Alto). This choir will study and perform a variety of vocal music at concerts and festivals. Students will learn: healthy vocal technique, how to read music notation, music theory, cooperation skills, problem solving skills and goal setting to achieve high standards of excellence. No previous singing experience is necessary. Admittance is by assignment by a vocal music teacher.

Advanced Women’s Ensemble is a highly select women’s choir (Soprano, Alto) of sixteen to thirty singers. Students learn advanced singing & performance techniques, to read music at an advanced level, historical music styles and techniques, music theory, cooperation skills, problem solving skills and goal setting to achieve standards of excellence. After school and evening performances may be extensive.

Concert/Performances include: Inauguration, CCR, Fall, Winter, District/State Choral Festival, Spring, and 15-25 community performances a year. Admittance is by audition which will be held in the Spring.
