Open Door Child Care
Open Door is the licensed child care program at Grand Haven Area Public Schools, created to support children and families with safe, reliable, and nurturing care. We focus on providing a warm, healthy environment where children can learn, play, and grow — and where parents feel confident and at ease.

Half-Days, Snow Days, Delayed Starts, & Breaks
Open Door is available on snow days (unless Open Door is closed), vacation days (winter and spring break), and scheduled half days. During these longer care periods, we often plan special activities such as field trips, hikes, tours, or on-site enrichment. Please send a sack lunch, as hot lunch is not provided on these days.
Half Days
A weekly schedule must be submitted if you will need care on scheduled half days.
Schedules are due by 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday of the week prior (unless an earlier due date is noted).
Snow Days & Unscheduled 2-Hour Delays
When school is canceled due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances, Open Door provides care for all registered students—no need to call ahead.
Snow day care is offered at the Duneside Discovery Center location only.
If local government buildings close due to hazardous travel conditions, Open Door at Duneside will close as well. Updates will appear with school closings on Nixle, local TV, and radio.
For unscheduled cancellations, your regular scheduled hours will be credited unless care is used.
Winter Break & Spring Break
There is no registration fee for winter or spring break care for families already registered in School Year Open Door.
Alternate schedules are required for break weeks. Registration forms will be available several weeks in advance and will have an earlier due date clearly marked.
Rates:
Full Day: $50*
Full Time (7+ hours per day, 5 days per week): $225*
*Additional children receive a 10% discount. The child who attends the most days is charged the full rate.

Policies and Procedures
Scheduling Policy
Schedules are due no later than 11:59 p.m. on the Tuesday prior to the scheduled week. (In certain circumstances, schedules may be due earlier due to the office being closed or holidays. If this is the case, emails will be sent and/or signs posted notifying you of the earlier due date.)
Late schedules will be accepted up until 12 p.m. on Wednesday. Late schedules will only be accepted if openings are available. Your account will be assessed a $10.00 late fee per child for schedules received after 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday.
After 12 p.m. on Wednesday no schedules will be accepted.
Drop in care is NOT available.
Schedules can not be taken over the phone. Schedules are to be submitted through your Procare account.
Late Pick-Up Policy
If a child is picked up after 6:00 p.m., a $15 late pick-up fee will be applied.
After the first 10 minutes, an additional $1.00 per minute will be charged. A late pick-up form will be provided for you to sign, and the fee will be added to your account.
Billing Policies
- The registration fee for Open Door is $50 per child with a $125 maximum per family.
- Credit Card payments will be automatically run the week prior to care.
- Changes to a submitted schedule cannot be made after the due date. You will be charged for the days and times scheduled, even if your child does not attend.
- The addition of days/times that are needed will only be accepted if openings are available.
- A weekly minimum fee does apply for GSRP - 6th grade. For full-time Open Door (6 or more visits), the minimum fee is $180/wk., and for part-time Open Door (5 or fewer visits), the minimum fee is $90/wk. PDP does not have a minimum weekly fee and gets billed hourly.
Open Door Withdrawal Process
If you no longer need Open Door Services, please provide two (2) weeks' notice by emailing children@ghaps.org. The minimum weekly fee will be charged during those two weeks.
