Grand Haven Area Public Schools (GHAPS) is pleased to announce the selection of three building leaders following approval by the Board of Education at Friday’s Board Workshop. These appointments reflect the district’s commitment to building on the strong foundations in place across its schools, with a focus on student impact, strong staff support, and meaningful family engagement.
Robinson Elementary School
Megan Goffnett has been selected as the next principal of Robinson Elementary. She currently serves as Interim Dean of Students at Rosy Mound Elementary, where she has demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting students, building relationships with staff and families, and fostering a positive school culture.
Goffnett will succeed longtime principal Jeff Marcus, who is retiring at the end of the school year. The district extends its gratitude to Marcus for his years of dedicated service and the lasting impact he has made on the Robinson school community.
Lake Hills Elementary School
Jenn Byxbe has been selected as the next principal of Lake Hills Elementary. Byxbe brings more than a decade of experience in education, including recent roles as both an assistant principal and elementary principal in Colorado.
Throughout her career, she has focused on building strong school communities, supporting staff through meaningful professional learning, and using student data to guide instruction and improve outcomes for all learners. She also brings experience in behavior supports and working with a wide range of students, including those learning English as a second language. Her collaborative leadership style and commitment to inclusive school environments will support the continued success of the Lake Hills community.
White Pines Intermediate School
Jenny Shaughnessy has been selected as the next principal of White Pines Intermediate School. She has served as assistant principal and most recently as interim principal, where she has been a steady and supportive presence for students and staff during a difficult year for the White Pines community following the passing of longtime principal Mike Shelton. Shelton’s leadership helped shape a culture of connection, care, and high expectations that continues to define the school today, and his impact will be felt for years to come.
Having worked closely with Shelton, Shaughnessy is well prepared to carry on his legacy while continuing to support students, staff, and families. The district has begun the process of identifying the next assistant principal for White Pines following Shaughnessy’s appointment as building principal.
“We are excited to welcome each of these outstanding leaders into their new roles,” said Superintendent Kristin Perkowski. “They bring a strong commitment to excellence and a clear focus on supporting students, staff, and families. I am confident they will build on the strong foundations in each of their schools and continue to make a positive impact across our district. I also want to thank the many staff members who participated in each interview process. Their time, insight, and thoughtful feedback played an important role in these decisions and reflect the strong, collaborative culture we value at GHAPS.”
