We are thrilled to serve your child during the 2025-26 school year! As we begin a new year, we want to share a few important reminders and updates.
Free Meals and Annual Benefits Form
Through the Michigan Healthy School Meals Program, Grand Haven Area Public Schools will provide one free breakfast and one free lunch to every student each school day.
Even though meals are provided at no cost, it is important for families to continue sharing household income information. This helps our schools receive full access to state and federal funding for educational programs that support our students.
Please visit www.GHAPS.org/benefitsform to complete the application as soon as possible to help ensure this additional funding is available to meet student needs. All information submitted through the application is confidential.
Meal Options and Prices
Each student may receive one free breakfast and one free lunch daily. Second meals, milk purchased separately, and à la carte items must be paid for out of pocket.
Please note that the state does not consider milk by itself to be a complete meal. Students who purchase only milk will be charged 50 cents.
- Second breakfast: $2.50
- Second elementary lunch: $3.25
- Second secondary lunch: $3.75
- Milk only: $0.50
Paying for Additional Items
Every student has an individual account that can be used for breakfast, lunch, milk, and à la carte purchases. Money is deducted only when the student goes through the serving line.
Students may pay with cash at the line, but we strongly encourage them to use their accounts so parents and guardians can view account activity online.
Payments may be made by check, cash, money order, or through the Meal Magic Family Portal. Online deposit fees will be covered by GHAPS.
Checks and money orders should be made payable to GHAPS and must be deposited for the full amount. Change will not be given to students. A $15 service fee will apply to all returned checks.
Food Allergies and Special Dietary Needs
We recognize the importance of supporting students and families who manage food allergies or require dietary modifications. This work requires coordination among parents and guardians, school nurses, administrators, and food service staff as part of the district's food allergy and medical conditions protocol.
Before Food Service can provide meal accommodations, families must submit a completed Special Diet Statement signed by a licensed medical provider. The form is available on the Food Service webpage in the resources section of the GHAPS website and is also attached to this letter.
Please send the completed form to Food Service Director Sean West at wests@ghaps.org. Once the form is received, Sean will contact the parent or guardian listed to review the requested accommodation and menu before it is put into place.
Please continue sending meals to school with your child until an alternate menu has been developed and you have spoken with the Food Service Director.
Families of students who currently receive meal accommodations should contact Sean at 616-850-6085 to review their plans. Additions or changes may be needed due to ongoing supply chain issues.
Special meals or menus cannot be developed until the Food Service Director receives the required documentation and reviews it with the student's parent or guardian.
School Menus
Through Nutrislice, students, families, and staff can access school menus, nutrition information, allergen details, and photos.
The Nutrislice app is available at no cost through the App Store for iOS devices and Google Play for Android devices. Menus can also be viewed on desktop and mobile devices at ghaps.nutrislice.com.
