The Grand Haven Area Public Schools Board of Education recently recognized Grand Haven High School junior Luka Hammond for another outstanding track and field season and an impressive individual accomplishment.

Earlier this month, Hammond captured his second consecutive MHSAA Division 1 State Championship in the 1,600-meter run, successfully defending the title he earned as a sophomore. Competing against the state's top distance runners, he once again crossed the finish line first to claim the championship.

In addition to his individual success, Hammond helped lead the Buccaneers to a fifth-place team finish at the Division 1 State Finals, contributing to one of the strongest team performances in the state this season.

Board members congratulated Hammond on this remarkable achievement and recognized the hard work, dedication, and perseverance required to earn back-to-back state championships at Michigan's highest level of high school competition.
