Sometimes the strongest school connections extend well beyond the classroom. Recently, one of our GHAPS bus drivers, Steve Bernia, went out of his way to support a former student who had been missing him after transitioning to a new school and new bus route this year.
When staff reached out to let Steve know how much this student was struggling with the change, he didn’t hesitate. Instead of simply sending a note, he rearranged his day so he could visit during lunch and surprise her in person.
According to the team at Ferry, the student was overjoyed when she saw him—a reminder of how deeply our transportation staff impact students’ lives, often in ways most people never see.
