Everyone is welcome at Lakeshore. The POPS (Power of Peer Support) program brings students with and without disabilities together to build friendships, strengthen leadership, and create a more inclusive school community. As part of a growing network of more than 700 schools across Michigan, Lakeshore is proud to offer daily opportunities for students to connect.
Throughout the school day, students engage in meaningful interactions during Connections class, in the hallways, at lunch, and even in Adaptive PE. From games and crafts to simple moments of inclusion, POPS helps all students feel seen, valued, and connected. The program also extends beyond the school day, with opportunities like attending the spring musical together to support peers.
Students consistently describe POPS as a highlight of their day, sharing that it’s a place where they can have fun, feel supported, and build genuine friendships.
Looking ahead, Lakeshore hopes to continue growing the program through expanded opportunities like a dedicated elective, Unified Sports, and additional community involvement.
